Unlike other fountains in Paris, the Saint-Michel fountain is polychrome, an attempt to compensate for the poor light exposition (the fountain faces north).
Saint-Michel fountain, near the Quartier Latin , was built in 1860 at the same time Paris was modernized by Haussmann under the rule of Napoleon III.
The fountain represents Saint Michael slaying a dragon.
